Wild West Wedding

Image via Vogue

Two weeks ago Vogue published the exclusive photos from David Lauren and wife, Lauren Bush's, Western-inspired wedding, which took place at Ralph's  Double RL ranch in Colorado this past Labor Day weekend.  With Ralph Lauren as the groom's father, it's no surprise that the event combined classic elegance with true American flair.  Ralph Lauren designed the bride's gown himself in an antique tulle with Swarovski crystal, bead, and pearl details.  Along with David's Old West inspired tux and boots, I think this aesthetic is quite awesome.

Check out the rest of the photos featured in Vogue and read the article here.

The Duel by Carter Peabody

This is Jason Rogers, men's fencing champion and member of the US Olympic Team, in a video by fashion photographer Carter Peabody.  It shows Rogers practicing sabre with fellow American Mihail Etropolski during the 2008 Beijing Olympics.  Peabody describes his inspiration:

“I realized that it made perfect sense for that world,” he says. “It’s a sport that is hundreds of years old—harkening back to a time when things were elegant, honorable and beautiful—but it also appeals to the modern appreciation of technique.”

The video is reminiscent of the artwork decorating Ralph Lauren stores, who appropriately outfitted this video.  I think this is really well done and as an ex-fencer myself, the technique is quite impressive.

Ralph Lauren's Double RL Ranch

Image via VanityFair.com

Today in one of her last interviews of her show, Oprah visited Ralph Lauren at his spectacular Double RL ranch outside of Telluride, Colorado for an exclusive tour and chat with the Lauren family.  Watching these clips of Ralph and his family make me love him and his clothing even more.  He's a class act.

And these are some of my favorite shots of his home to whet your appetite...

L'Art de L'Automobile

Last week the Louvre in Paris unveiled to the public a collection that previously only a select few had ever seen.  Ralph Lauren himself is showcasing his exquisite private collection of classic cars at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs from April 28th to August 28th.  This exhibition proves that cars are truly an artform, reflecting the human relationship with form and design.  Each one of these automobiles exudes classic style and their sophisticated elegance serves as an inspiration to find beauty in our surroundings.

Listen to Ralph talk about his collection and be sure to visit the Polo website to read more about the cars in the collection and even hear their engines!

Also, here is an article featured in the Wall Street Journal about the exhibit.

Gordon Voidwell

Here is a little diddy to kick off the weekend that I recently rediscovered by Gordon Voidwell.  "Ivy League Circus" was released on Cantora (the same label that did MGMT's Time To Pretend) and was backed by Ralph Lauren.  The Rugby Style blog described him as "Prince meets MGMT--danceable, funked-out, 80's inspired pop."  You can watch the preview video from last May and download a free remix of the song at Rugby.com  So download the song and get outside to enjoy the sunshine!

To get the inside scoop on Mr. Voidwell, here is an interview he did with The Huffington Post a while back.

Dwell Color Palettes

Dwell magazine's founder, Lara Hedberg Deam, brings us a series of design videos in collaboration with Ralph Lauren Paint.  The four videos were released each season of last year and are based on Le Corbusier's Polychromie Architecturale.  Each video features a diverse color palette and reflects a distinct mood and space.  Contrary to the stereotypical belief, modern architecture need not be constrained by a monochromatic palette - check out these videos and get inspired to try something unexpected and add more color to your life!

I think the "stable brown" is especially striking and really dig this palette.
